reading 2 books......C.WRIGHT MILLS "THE POWER ELITE", and CHARLES DARWIN "ORIGIN OF SPECIES"

both are good reading but some of Darwin's terminology i don't understand....so then i gotta fuckin look it up.
there is no god, their is only "THE WILL TO POWER". thats what runs this universe.

I ordered five books online, read two of them and am already into the third, the island.

The first book I read was little brother by Cory Doctorow. It's a book aimed at young adults who are part of the internet culture. Bunch of hacker kids witness a terrorist attack and get interrogated by the gov't. Upon release they notice a sharp increase in surveillance - which was already high - and decide to fight back. It's not particularly well written but the key concept of privacy in the age of computers is solid.

The second book was the chrysalids by John Wyndham. I bought this because Jefferson airplane used a few lines of it in the lyrics to crown of creation. It's set in a post-apocalyptic world - although it's never made explicitly clear, there are hints at a nuclear war. The book follows the story of a young boy and his friends who have a mental mutation. This isn't good for them because they live in a society based on a form of Christianity where all deviations from the true form are seen as blasphemies against God.

I'm currently reading island by Aldous Huxley. I was going to get of apes and essence, but this book seemed to get better reviews. The book is supposed to be Huxley's idea of utopia - a fusion of Western science and Eastern philosophy, as near as I can tell. I'm finding it hard to get into at the moment actually, the main character has been resting in bed for six chapters while characters that I don't care about are thrown at me. Huxley might as well have written this as one of his essays; I dare say I would have received it better.

^ i found it hard to get into at first too, it picks up when he starts travelin around the island. i had to use my imagination with this one a lot more than some of his others, but after a couple reads it became my favorite book.

i am working through this for the next couple days

Just finished reading IQ83 by Arthur Herzog

Found it in the dumpster behind the shop where I work, it was a good read.

Now I'm reading Rob Roy by Sir Walter Scott

So far it's good. A little bit of a heavier read because of when it was written, but it's good so far.
